Local Groups, Organisations and Services

We’re currently compiling a database of local groups and organisations that provide support and services to the LGBT+ Community. As we are based in Reading, we have started our database here but will be adding more areas as we collate it.

Berkshire Gay Link

Berkshire Gay Link is a social group which organises a range of activities for gay men living in Berkshire and further afield and offers social gatherings away from the commercial gay scene. They publish a programme roughly every 3 months within a newsletter posted out to all members.

BeYOU Berkshire LGBT Coffee Social

beYOU holds events that create the opportunity to meet and chat with like minded people from the LGBT+ community and a place you can…beYOU

LGBT+ Society – University of Reading

A society run by and for LGBT+ students. They are an inclusive group – anyone who identifies as a sexual and/or gender minority is welcome to join and they welcome allies.

SupportU

SuportU are a LGBT+ Support Service and run a helpline and a number of different groups.

ReachOUT

ReachOUT is the Youth Club in Reading for young people aged 13-18 who are LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual or Transgender, or Questionning).

The club is held every Wednesday, in a town-centre location, from 6.45pm to 8.45pm, and provides a safe space for young people to come along, participate in fun activities and events, and meet other young people in a similar situation to themselves. They can also receive support from the volunteers and staff at the club on a range of issues they would like help with.

We have a huge soft spot for ReachOUT: Two of FOD’s trustees were trustees of ReachOUT before it fell under Reading Borough Council’s remit and Jamie’s husband was a Youth Worker for ReachOUT.

Reading Pride

Reading Pride organises an annual pride festival which is held in Kings Meadow.

Thames Valley Positive Support

Whilst not a dedicated service for LGBT+ people, TVPS has worked hard to make a significant difference to people living with HIV across Berkshire for over 30 years. They are the only HIV charity in Berkshire and their work spans prevention, testing and post-diagnosis support.
