Fund of Diversity

As well as creating a safe space for members of the LGBT+ community to socialise, the FOD Squad actively raise money for local LGBT+ charities and projects. All money raised is divided equally and given to the nominated charities, projects and good causes. In 2019 (our first year) we raised £1,343 which was given to Thames Valley Positive Support (TVPS), SupportU and Reading Pride.

2020 saw us meet a number of challenges with us so far being only able to hold two physical events before lockdown. This meant that we were not  able to actively fundraise in the way in which we intended. Despite being locked down, we did not want to see members of the LGBT+ community locked out so we moved our social events online to produce a virtual quiz night every Saturday at 8pm. This helped us raise £1,200 which with agreement from all the donors, this was given to the fund established to support the families of the three gay men murdered in Forbury Gardens by contributing to the funeral expenses.

On 1st July 2020, we launched The Fund Of Diversity. A rolling fund which we can use to fund projects within the LGBT+ Community. Whereas funds were distributed previously every quarter, our aim is that funds raised will be distributed monthly and members of the LGBT+ community will help us decide where those funds should go.

The Fund of Diversity currently stands at £1,835.23 and we need your suggestions as to where this should be used. Simply send an email to [email protected] with your ideas.
